None of this shit matters, and I don’t know why we keep doing it to ourselves. But, we do. It’s like crack – they’re ever-present this time of year….the NFL mock draft. We can’t get enough. I’ve probably read thousands of these things at this point. And, I still don’t know what constitutes the decimal point. How many changes have to happen to switch from 1.0 to 1.2? 1.5? A full point? It’s one of life’s greatest mysteries. Anyway, we have a tradition of our own to keep up with – the one and only SoBros mock draft. Now, I’ll say this. This is just what I would do if I was the GM on the clock. Also, I don’t mock trades – that’s way too unpredictable. So, with that said, let’s get to it.
The SoBros 2021 NFL Mock Draft 1.0
- Jacksonville Jaguars – QB Trevor Lawrence – It’s a no-brainer. Lawrence is the safest pick for a franchise that’s due for a hard reset.
- New York Jets – QB Zach Wilson – The Jets need a dynamic and explosive play-maker at the position to give that offense a spark. They get that in Wilson.
- San Francisco 49ers – QB Mac Jones – Jones is actually my QB2 because of his command of the offense, and his ability to make every throw in the book. He’d fit with Kyle Shanahan like a glove.
- Atlanta Falcons – QB Justin Fields – I know the Falcons are set at quarterback for the right now, but this team isn’t just a piece or two away from playoff contention. I say it’s time to start building for the future in Atlanta.
- Cincinnati Bengals – TE Kyle Pitts – This one’s easy – surround Joe Burrow with play-makers, including a guy that some have called the best overall player in the draft.
- Miami Dolphins – WR Ja’Marr Chase – If Tua Tagovailoa is going to stand a chance, he needs weapons. This ‘Fins team isn’t so far away.
- Detroit Lions – WR Jaylen Waddle – The Lions receiving corps is depleted, but Waddle is a guy who can do it all. Don’t be surprised if he’s the best receiver to come out of this class in a few seasons.
- Carolina Panthers – OT Penei Sewell – Again, this isn’t what I think will happen. This is what I would do if I were the GM of the Panthers. I’m just not sold on Trey Lance, I want to give Sam Darnold a real shot, and I need a stud offensive tackle. Works for me.
- Denver Broncos – CB Patrick Surtain II – Easy enough…the Broncos need cornerbacks, and the best one in this draft class is there for ’em at #9.
- Dallas Cowboys – OT Rashawn Slater – Look, I know it’s not sexy, but the Cowboys have to get that offensive line back to the road grading unit it was a few seasons ago. Some have called Slater the best OT in this draft.
- New York Giants – WR DeVonta Smith – The Giants defense made great strides in 2020. So, let’s focus on beefing up that offense and getting Daniel Jones some weapons.
- Philadelphia Eagles – CB Jaycee Horn – The days of a strong Eagles secondary are long behind us. They need horses, and they get one in Horn.
- Los Angeles Chargers – OT Christian Darrisaw – There’s a lot of promise in Los Angeles, but the priority should be to keep the reigning Rookie of the Year, Justin Herbert, upright.
- Minnesota Vikings – EDGE Jaelan Phillips – The Vikings need some work along their front seven, and to add some teeth to their pass rush. They get one of the best edge rushers in this class.
- New England Patriots – QB Trey Lance – Realistically speaking, come on….Lance is going to go in the top 10. But, no trades here, so I’m sending Lance to New England. I think it’s actually an intriguing fit. The Pats have to address the quarterback position this year.
- Arizona Cardinals – CB Caleb Farley – The Cardinals need to keep adding pieces to that defense to catch up to the offense.
- Las Vegas Raiders – OT Teven Jenkins – If the Raiders want to line up and pound Josh Jacobs, they need to make sure the offensive line is bolstered.
- Miami Dolphins – RB Najee Harris – This one may come as a surprise, but I think the Dolphins should look to add play-makers all around Tua. That defense is solid. They could use some o-line help, sure, but it’s a deep OL class. Get the electricity going in in Miami with Chase and now Harris.
- Washington Football Team – LB Zaven Collins – I love Collins as a prospect with real do-it-all potential. The Football Team has the luxury of adding to an already stout defense.
- Chicago Bears – WR Kadarius Toney – The Bears need a little juice on offense, and Toney is a guy who can do it all from the wide receiver position.
- Indianapolis Colts – EDGE Kwity Paye – The Colts would love an OT here, but I just don’t see the value here at #21, so I would address another need with a tremendous value in Paye falling to #21.
- Tennessee Titans – CB Greg Newsome II – The Titans have to get a starting caliber cornerback out of this year’s draft. Newsome, a sticky coverage guy, is just what they need.
- New York Jets – EDGE Azeez Ojulari – The Jets have to revamp their pass rush just as much as anything else in 2021.
- Pittsburgh Steelers – OL Alijah Vera-Tucker – Man, the Steelers need a lot of help at a lot of positions, but they have to get their offensive line back on track, and that starts with a stud interior guy in Vera-Tucker.
- Jacksonville Jaguars – CB Asante Samuel, Jr. – The Jags could really go just about anywhere with this pick. I thought about Travis Etienne just to keep piling on with the electric play-makers, but I don’t think it’s as big of a need as the secondary.
- Cleveland Browns – LB Micah Parsons – Okay, the Parsons slide stops in Cleveland. The Browns have a pretty damn complete roster. That gives them the luxury of taking the best player available. I’ll go ahead and say it here in April – let’s count the Browns among the favorites in the AFC in 2021.
- Baltimore Ravens – WR Elijah Moore – The Ravens need to open up that offense a little bit and add at least some semblance of a passing game. Moore’s a prospect that I think will sneak into the back end of the first round, and the Ravens should be ecstatic to add him to their receiving corps.
- New Orleans Saints – LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah – Should the Saints try and get a little somethin’ somethin’ together to move up and take a quarterback? Maybe. But, they were too good in 2020 to land within striking distance of one of the franchise QBs in this draft class. So, they stay put and elect to reload on defense with one of the best linebackers in the draft.
- Green Bay Packers – OT Alex Leatherwood – I don’t know why anyone thinks the Packers are going to invest draft capital in wide receiver after last season…instead, they get some reinforcements for the offensive line to keep that rushing attack going strong.
- Buffalo Bills – DL Christian Barmore – Doesn’t this just feel like a Buffalo Bills pick? Maybe they have other, more pressing, needs but can they pass up the opportunity to get the best defensive tackle in this draft? No way.
- Kansas City Chiefs – OL Landon Dickerson – A lot of folks don’t like Dickerson as much, and don’t think he’ll go in the first round. But, I love his ability paired with his leadership skills. The Chiefs need help all along the offensive line, so they grab the best guy remaining on my board.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers – S Trevon Moehrig – What the hell does this team even need? LOOK AT THIS ROSTER AND TELL ME WHAT IT NEEDS! Fuck it – the best safety in the draft.
