The Tennessee Titans are coming off of a terrible loss at the hands of the 2-8 Houston Texans on Sunday, a game during which the Titans just couldn’t stop shooting themselves in the foot….all of ’em…every damn foot on that team caught a bullet on Sunday. But, we can’t let it negate all of the good this team did when it was on a six-game win streak that included victories over the Bills, Chiefs, Colts, Rams, and Saints. They’ll look to get right in a massive showdown against the red hot New England Patriots in Foxborough on Sunday. The spread opened at Pats -5.5, but has been bet up to Pats -6.5 at the time of this writing. These poor souls betting Patriots just don’t know how this Titans team performs with its back against the wall under Mike Vrabel. The point total is set at over/under 44.5 points, and ESPN’s matchup predictor gives the Pats a 67.5% chance of winning this game. So, what do the Titans have to do to pull off the upset? Let’s get to it.

Don’t do dumb shit that hurts the team – Y’all know everyone has those days at work when you just want to drive your fist through the wall or someone’s face because it’s just going so badly. You go home and immediately pour yourself a stiff drink and just take a moment to stare at the wall to regroup. Breathe a sigh of relief and live to fight another day. Well, this might be a copout because it’s obvious that you don’t want to do dumb shit that hurts the team in any game. But, at this time, taking a bit to catch your breath to re-center just might help. Get back to fundamentals and other football cliches of that nature. How do you correct mistakes? Don’t make them. I think it was Plato that said that….from his closet.
Pass protection – This Patriots defense damn near murdered Matt Ryan a week ago, and I would expect that as inconsistent as the Titans have been in pass protection this season, that the Patriots will try to key in on that. Not to mention that while the run game made progress against the Texans, it still hasn’t exactly been the same since Derrick Henry went to IR. So, this is going to be another game that the Titans will need Ryan Tannehill to step up in. Best protect his ass. The Titans didn’t allow a whole lot of pressures from the Texans on Sunday, so they’ll have to keep that up.
Lean into the defensive battle – I’m hammering that under in this one. If you’re the Titans, I think you’re perfectly fine with this turning into a defensive battle the way your defense has been playing. Mac Jones is a sound decision-maker, but if you can force him into a couple of mistakes and capitalize on it, it could be the difference in the game.
