Well, well, well – we finally made it. The big day is here: Halloween 2019. It feels like Halloween has been over for the last two weeks, but that’s just a byproduct of putting out all of the Halloween merch so early. I swear, every year, those shelves are stocked earlier than expected. Before long, we’ll be buying pumpkins with our Valentine’s Day candy. Ah well – you’re not here to read me bitch and moan like an old curmudgeon.
I’m here to recap the awesome coverage the SoBros Network team put in on our Halloween 2019 ‘Spooky Season’ content plan.
I put these content plans together once every few months to make sure we’re covering the big events – WrestleMania, the NFL Draft, Halloween, Christmas…etc. etc. For this one, though, I largely just sat back and curated the content as it flowed in. Hell, all I contributed this year was another bullshit story about some kids getting scared, a different kid trying to fight a Halloween decoration, and that story of that family’s basement being flooded with animal blood.
So, I can’t express how proud I am of this year’s plan being completed because it features a myriad of content from virtually all of the SoBros.
It was highlighted by what I think is probably the most creative feature we’ve ever run on SoBros Network: The Widow’s Mountain, a four-part series of eerie short fiction written by our guy Cadbury. He also added a nice edition of Music Monday on the band Dead Man’s Bones to the content plan. But, hold up – how cool is it that I get to italicize something that was written and published on this site?
If anyone deserves the Spooky Season 2019 MVP honors, though, it might be Brittany Fernandez. Brittany is quickly becoming THE go-to lifestyle writer for SoBros Network, as she has put in some real quality work since officially joining the team. From her review of Epic Home Haunts on Amazon Prime Her and Full Moon Cineplex in Hermitage, to her review of the $1 Vampire at Applebee’s, she kept the quality coming this month. Her crowning piece, in my opinion, was ‘The York Road Stranger,’ which we added to the anthology of SoBros Scary Stories this year.
And, her and RighteousJesse (shout out to that Voices of the Underground work this month, by the way. Big time #TeamGSD moves from Jesse) teamed up to give us the popular ’10 Spooky Things To Do In Nashville This October’ piece -AND- they dropped a new episode of Haunted Home Video in there, too. Hell, even my ‘basement flooded in animal blood’ piece was written because SHE shared it in the #articleideas channel in the SoBros Slack. Real round of applause is due.
Nothing out of the ordinary here, but noted content machine Brandon Vick dropped a catalog of some brand new old movie reviews on Movie Review Rewind this season that included Frankenweenie, The Rite, Silent House, Dark Skies, and The Uninvited. I commended him for going outside-the-box with some lesser known thrillers and horror flicks this year. Always keeping things interesting.
Rubber Rooster did some extensive research and organized the itineraries for TWO Spooky Season episodes of Phone It In – one on the Point Pleasant Mothman, the other on the Skinwalker Ranch. “The General” John Mosley wrote a tremendous piece on horror movies I haven’t seen, but should. And, our buddy Lane teamed up with me to produce The Apologetic Serial Killer, an original sketch that was initially designed to be apart of a larger show until we realized we had nowhere near the time and resources to get it done for Halloween 2019.
Of course, we reconvened on our own favorite Halloween movies as a staff. I received rankings from all of the SoBros Family (shout out to Worrier – couldn’t do all of this without you), and we updated our ‘SoBros Top 10’ on Halloween movies.
All of these articles, podcasts, and videos are listed below if you really want to dive in today.
But the cherry on top of the whole Halloween 2019 season was our 2nd biannual ‘SoBros Go to the Movies’ event, when the SoBros team and some of our closest friends got together to go see Zombieland: Double Tap.

And, of course, props to Rooster for the idea to dress up as Marko Stunt for Halloween:

It feels like the season has really flown by, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. We’ve had some fun and we’ve put in some work. Like I said, I’m more proud of this season’s effort than any season before it. Enjoy!

Be sure to enjoy the big day, folks, but enjoy responsibly. Don’t drink and drive and all that. If you have kids, be sure to check all the candy, and don’t feel guilty if you raid it for your own favorites. I know trick or treating is for the children, but damn – it’s a ton of work. You deserve a tootsie roll or two. Happy Halloween!!!
