The 2020 NFL Draft is in the books, and your boy’s here to take a look around the entire NFL and pass out draft grades. Or, not. I may get tired of this whole process and flake out at any point…including after this article. Anyway, today, I’m taking a look at the AFC South.
And, before you roll your eyes, let me say this. I know that you don’t get a real sense of how good a draft class is for about three years. I’m not projecting NFL careers here – simply looking at checking the boxes at areas of need and value based on the level of talent selected. Bada boom. LFG.
AFC South Draft Grades 2020
Houston Texans
- Ross Blacklock
- Jonathan Greenard
- Charlie Heck
- John Reid
- Isaiah Coulter
Overall: I like Blacklock a lot and he does fill an immediate need. Greenard could push for a starting job, too. But, I don’t see the reasoning behind spending one of your top picks on an offensive tackle when you just paid Laremy Tunsil a boat load of money and invested a first round pick a year ago on Tytus Howard. I guess they’re just loading up since Deshaun Watson was nearly murdered on a regular basis a year ago. We all give Bill O’Brien a hard time for being a big doofus, but this roster still has a lot of talent and should be a factor in the AFC South. Are they talented enough for their GM to overcome not addressing their biggest needs early on in the draft? Stay tuned. Grade: C.
Indianapolis Colts
- Michael Pittman, Jr.
- Jonathan Taylor
- Julian Blackmon
- Jacob Eason
- Danny Pinter
- Robert Windsor
- Isaiah Rodgers
- Dezmon Patmon
- Jordan Glasgow
Overall: I love what the Colts did in this draft. Really giving the offense a nice 1-2 punch in Pittman and Taylor, adding a couple more weapons for Philip Rivers. With one of the best offensive lines in the league, that unit should be loaded for 2020. They added a potential successor to Rivers in Eason, and beyond that, stockpiled depth. The Colts are going to make the AFC South interesting in 2020. Grade: A.
Jacksonville Jaguars
- CJ Henderson
- K’Lavon Chaisson
- Laviska Shenault, Jr.
- Davon Hamilton
- Ben Bartch
- Josiah Scott
- Shaquille Quarterman
- Daniel Thomas
- Collin Johnson
- Jake Luton
- Tyler Davis
- Chris Claybrooks
Overall: Hard not to like anyone’s draft who has about a million picks in it. But, I thought the Jags did particularly well in re-tooling their defense with Henderson, Chaisson, Hamilton, and Scott. Shenault was a bit of a polarizing prospect, but I was on the side that actually liked him a lot. Good value there and they might’ve gotten several future starters out of this class. Grade: A-.
Tennessee Titans
- OT Isaiah Wilson
- CB Kristian Fulton
- RB Darrynton Evans
- DL Larrell Murchison
- QB Cole McDonald
- DB Chris Jackson
Overall: I was initially critical of the Wilson pick, but after Fulton fell to ’em in the second round, it looks like a stroke of brilliance. Evans and Murchison have the opportunity to be key role players, and they got a developmental quarterback and depth at defensive back. Jon Robinson strikes again. Grade: A. I’m giving out As like candy.
