Quarantine Jams, Vol. 41: Do a Little Dance, Make a Little Love, Get Down Tonight

Today's playlist is all about that disco fever...

Today’s playlist features songs that will have you reminiscing over bell bottoms, platform shoes, and 8-Track cassettes. Throughout the 1970s and the early 1980s, disco ruled the airwaves of a.m. radio and nightclubs.

What was once a universally embraced genre quickly turned into the most hated. The backlash to disco eventually made it to baseball fields. Disco Demolition Night was the promotion the Chicago White Sox threw in July of 1979.

The White Sox and Detroit Tigers were set to have a double header and the promotion was to run between games. A crate filled with disco records was placed on the field to be detonated. The rowdy crowd, many of which were there strictly for the promotion, rushed the field in excitement after the explosion.

The field was so badly damaged by the fans and detonation that the White Sox were forced to forfeit the second game.

Disco has seen its fair share of rough times, but many of today’s top pop stars are keeping the genre alive through music. Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa and Two Door Cinema are a few examples of artists that are clearly inspired by disco.

Push play on this playlist and hopefully you’ll catch Disco Fever.
