Hard to believe that Halloween Week is already here. It feels like only yesterday, we were all sitting down to talk about all of the things we wanted to write and record for Spooky Season 2020. I never learn my lesson – that always needs to start earlier! Here we are, with only a few days remaining between us and Halloween, and I still have a few more items to check off the ol’ content plan. But, by and large, it is time to start winding down for the season, wrapping up our work, and just simply enjoying the holiday. It only comes once a year, after all.

Throughout the years, the Spooky Season content plan has always been one of the highlights of the SoBros Network calendar. We put together our first plan in 2017, and have been doing it ever since – we’ve been on this train almost as long as we’ve been a company. So, I thought this would be a fitting opportunity to look back at years past, and offer up some of my favorite Spooky Season pieces that our team has put together over the course of the last few years.

The Best of Spooky Season on SoBros Network

The Widow’s Mountain by Cadbury (link) – We have some short fiction available over on the SoBros Network Patreon page, but this four-part story is available for free on the website. It’s a fantastic, slow-burn (as slow-burn as short fiction can be) type of work that just makes you feel cold and isolated. It’s as atmospheric as it is unnerving. Definitely worth your time to pour a hot beverage and cuddle up on the couch to read.

Full Moon Cineplex review by Brittany Fernandez (link) – It’s open year-round, but Full Moon doesn’t get the credit it deserves for being a hell of an attraction this time of year. They’re known for playing the classics, but it’s the ambience of this place that sets it apart and really puts you in that Halloween spirit. It’s no wonder Brittany calls this her “absolute favorite place in the Nashville area.”

The York Road Stranger by Brittany Fernandez (link) – ‘SoBros Scary Stories’ will always have a special place in my heart. It’s a lot of fun for us to get together and share real-life experiences that certainly feel strange and supernatural. To write those out and share ’em with the world? That’s just good good shit. But, my favorite one of the whole line is this piece from Brittany. There’s a lot of fun, “oOoOoOoOoO sPoOkY” kinda stories in the SoBros Scary Stories line, but this is one is just downright disturbing and I dare say, dangerous sounding.

History Lesson: Samhain by Rooster (link) – On a piece-by-piece average, History Lesson remains one of the most-read features on SoBros Network. But, Rooster’s piece on the ‘reason for the season’ just really takes the cake. There’s a lot of entertainment talk on the site this time of year, but this article has always sort of grounded the Spooky Season content and taken on a more informative tone. Personally, I learned a lot on the origins of Halloween from this History Lesson. That’s why I’m going to share the shit out of it every year.

How To Throw An Awesome Halloween Party (link) – This is so dumb….I just make myself laugh sometimes finding ridiculous stuff like this amidst all of this actually good Halloween content. *shrugs*

Halloween (2018), Movie Review by Brandon Vick – (link) – Sure, it’s relevant, but it’s also one of Brandon’s most popular movie reviews of the last couple of years. That HAS to mean it’s one of the best, right?

12 Hours Of Hallucinatory Film Viewing At The Belcourt by E Young (link) – E put together a detailed account of one of Nashville’s most beloved Halloween traditions: getting together at the Belcourt and watching scary movies for 12 straight hours. It’s honestly a feat that deserves a hearty pat on the back with an accompanying “well done.” But, for you horror fans in the Music City, this is a can’t-miss event that E puts a hella fun spin on. I can’t do the jump scare and possession shit, but this piece makes me think I’m crazy enough to give it a shot one day.

The Tale Of The Point Pleasant Mothman by Rooster (link) – Another informative, detailed article from Rooster. If you’re wondering how the Mothman came to be the official unofficial mascot of the SoBros Network, this is a great place to start. It’s one of those supernatural and bizarre stories that just has a little bit of everything – creatures, scares, government conspiracies, aliens, portals to other dimensons….just the whole nine yards. This one actually won Rooster the ‘Article of the Year: Actual Journalism Category’ award from the 2019 SoBros Network Staff Awards.

Oh, and don’t forget to buy our Mothman shirt.
